Georgetown Men’s Lacrosse Players Earn Prestigious All-American Honors

In an exciting announcement from USA Lacrosse Magazine, two standout players from Georgetown University’s men’s lacrosse team garnered prestigious All-American honors. Sophomore defenseman Ty Banks earned a spot on the Second Team All-America roster, while graduate student attackman Aidan Carroll received Honorable Mention All-America recognition. This recognition highlights their exceptional performances throughout the season and their vital roles in shaping the team dynamics.

Ty Banks: Defensive Dynamo

Ty Banks has solidified his position as a cornerstone of Georgetown’s defensive strategy this year, earning him a well-deserved place on the Second Team All-America list. This season, Banks has not only showcased his defensive prowess—leading the Hoyas to a top-10 ranking—but has also contributed to a remarkable average of just 8.93 goals allowed per game. As the primary cover defenseman, he is credited with an impressive 22 caused turnovers, showcasing his ability to disrupt opposing plays and seize possession for his team.

In addition to his defensive statistics, Banks has also shown his versatility by contributing offensively, notching two goals and an assist in this season. His impact was felt heavily throughout the season, particularly as he helped the Hoya defense hold opponents to single-digit goals in 10 out of their 15 games, including each of their last six. Recognized earlier as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, Banks’ All-American honors further confirm his status as one of college lacrosse’s premier defensive talents.

Aidan Carroll: Offensive Powerhouse

Aidan Carroll’s recognition as Honorable Mention All-American marks another high point in his already illustrious lacrosse career. This isn’t the first time Carroll has been recognized—he received the same accolade last season. As a graduate student, he has taken a leadership role, spearheading the Hoyas’ offensive efforts with 42 goals and 24 assists, totaling an impressive 66 points. Carroll has become a driving force for the team, displaying exceptional skill and tenacity on the field.

What sets Carroll apart is his unique achievement of being just the third player in Georgetown’s storied history to record at least two 60-point seasons. His ability to consistently perform under pressure was further evidenced when he was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year. Notably, he has made history as the only player in the league’s history to be awarded the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player not once, but twice. This remarkable feat illustrates his dominance during crucial games, including his record-setting performance in which he scored 8 goals and accumulated 10 points in a single tournament game.

The Path Ahead

With the accolades set, the focus now shifts to the next big challenge for Georgetown. The Hoyas are preparing to face seventh-seeded Duke in the NCAA Tournament First Round. Scheduled for Saturday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Durham, North Carolina, this matchup promises to be a thrilling encounter. Both Banks and Carroll will undoubtedly play pivotal roles as the team vies for continued success in their quest for NCAA glory.
