US Donates US$207,000 in Medical Supplies to Trinidad and Tobago’s Health Ministry

On June 17, 2025, the United States government made a significant contribution to Trinidad and Tobago’s healthcare system by donating medical supplies valued at US$207,000. This donation aims to improve health services and public health outcomes in the region.
The presentation of the supplies took place at the Ministry of Health’s headquarters in Port of Spain. Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Charlie Franta represented the U.S. Embassy, delivering the items directly to Minister of Health Dr. Lackram Bodoe. The exchange highlights the ongoing collaboration between the U.S. and Trinidad and Tobago, particularly in health-related initiatives.
This donation was made possible through the United States Southern Command’s (SOUTHCOM) Humanitarian Assistance Program. Such assistance programs emphasize the U.S. commitment to providing humanitarian aid tailored to the needs of partner nations.
The supplied items include:
- 13 hospital mobile beds
- 1,000 bedsheets
- A variety of essential supplementary medical supplies

The U.S. Embassy emphasized that this contribution is part of their ongoing commitment to bolster the healthcare framework within Trinidad and Tobago. DCM Franta noted, “These donated items will help replenish critical inventory, particularly in emergency and surgical wards.”
Franta reiterated the longstanding support relationship, stating that this donation exemplifies the commitment of the United States to Trinidad and Tobago. He referred to a previous donation of disaster relief equipment and supplies valued at US$100,000 made in December. Over the past decade, more than US$10 million in humanitarian support has been allocated to Trinidad and Tobago through the SOUTHCOM program.
Dr. Bodoe expressed gratitude towards the U.S. for its ongoing generosity. He articulated that the donation reiterates the shared responsibility in healthcare, emphasizing that health transcends borders. He highlighted their bilateral relationship, which thrives on mutual support and responsiveness to the pressing needs of healthcare systems.
With healthcare demands growing, especially in public health systems, these supplies are set to enhance operational capacity and improve patient outcomes significantly. Minister Bodoe confirmed that the medical supplies will be distributed to the Port of Spain and San Fernando general hospitals, ensuring that they reach the facilities that need them most.
