The US Chamber of Commerce for Brazil, alongside Amcham Brasil and the US Chamber of Commerce, has released a set of strategic proposals intended to bolster cooperation between the two nations. This joint initiative primarily zeroes in on enhancing the supply chain for critical minerals and rare earth elements, which are vital components in a multitude of industries, from technology to green energy.
This proposal emerged during a significant event known as the US business innovation mission to Brazil, which took place from June 3 to 6. Held across key cities like BrasÃlia and São Paulo, this mission sought to engage both governments in dialogue and present a strategic framework for future cooperation.
“Critical minerals are the foundation of the global economy,” stated Marty Durbin, the senior vice president of policy at the US Chamber of Commerce and leader of the US delegation. He emphasized that both nations need to fortify their partnership in order to secure a reliable supply chain, a necessity that is expected to grow even more important in the coming years. Durbin described the proposals as mutually beneficial and a catalyst for innovation and growth between the two countries.
The proposal, crafted through a sustained dialogue between the organizations, delineates five crucial initiatives geared towards strengthening cooperation. These initiatives include the establishment of a strategic minerals dialogue action plan, collaborative geological mapping, securing financing and guarantees, fostering technological and business partnerships for mineral processing, and promoting community engagement alongside sustainable practices.
