Carver Larson from Alexandria Qualifies for 2025 U.S. Amateur Golf Championship

The Rising Star: Carver Larson Qualifies for the 2025 U.S. Amateur

MORTON, Minnesota — On a bright Tuesday morning, July 2, 2025, the picturesque Dacotah Ridge Golf Club served as the backdrop for an impressive display of golfing talent. Among the participants was Alexandria’s own Carver Larson, who electrified the course with a fast start and ultimately tied for fifth in the local qualifying event for the 2025 U.S. Amateur. This performance earned him a coveted spot in the prestigious U.S. Amateur Championship, marking a significant milestone in his burgeoning golf career.

A Stellar Performance

Larson’s round was nothing short of remarkable. He kicked off his day in exceptional fashion, birdieing two of the first three holes—a par 4 on the second (446 yards) and a par 5 on the third (561 yards). This keen focus and skill set the tone for the rest of his round, propelling him to an impressive score of 3-under par (69) by the end of the day.

As he navigated the course, Larson showcased not only his power but his strategic acumen. After further birdies on the par 5 sixth hole (547 yards) and the par 4 ninth hole (433 yards), he marched to the back nine at an impressive 3-under par. Even with a hiccup on the eighth hole, where he recorded a bogey, Larson’s confidence did not waver. He continued to capitalize on scoring opportunities, adding more birdies on the par 4 10th (421 yards) and the par 4 17th (354 yards).

Despite facing challenges on the par 3 11th hole (179 yards) and the par 5 18th hole (569 yards), where he incurred bogeys, Larson’s early successes were enough to ensure his high placement on the leaderboard. He concluded his round with nine pars, complementing his birdies and bogeys efficiently.

The Competitive Field

The stakes were high at this qualifying event, as only those who finished tied for eighth or better could secure their spots in the 2025 U.S. Amateur Tournament. In total, 11 golfers from the local qualifying round successfully advanced, with Larson securing a notable fifth place finish among them. Among his competitors, Andrew Ramos of Blaine, Minnesota, shone brightest, taking home medalist honors with an outstanding 7-under par (65).

Other notable Alexandria natives included Ryan Conn, who finished with a round of 73 (1-over par), and Weston Nyberg and Jack Holtz, both with rounds of 74 (2-over par). Meanwhile, Bralyn Steffensmeier faced more challenges, concluding with a round of 89 (17-over par).

Looking Ahead to the U.S. Amateur Championship

With his qualification secured, Larson’s sights are now set on the upcoming 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship, which will take place from August 11-17, 2025, at the iconic Olympic Club in San Francisco, California. This prestigious venue has hosted numerous championship events throughout its storied history, and Larson will undoubtedly relish the opportunity to compete at such a high level.

As he prepares for this exciting next chapter in his golfing journey, there’s a palpable buzz around Larson, not only for his individual achievements but also for what he represents for young athletes in Alexandria. His commitment to the sport is exemplified by his impending transition to the University of North Dakota men’s golf team this fall, where he will continue to develop his skills and compete against some of the best collegiate players in the country.

As the golf community eagerly anticipates Larson’s debut at the U.S. Amateur, fans and supporters will be rooting for him, cheering on a promising talent with the potential to shine on some of the sport’s biggest stages.
